Basic third-party liability is included. Optional CDW and theft protection cover you across both Dutch and French territory.

French-Side Destinations

Marigot

The French capital. Waterfront market, Fort Louis, marina cafés and duty-free shopping along Rue de la République.

Grand Case

The island's gastronomic capital. Lolos and Michelin-trained chefs line the beachfront boulevard.

Orient Bay

Wide white-sand beach with watersports, beach clubs and the famous clothing-optional Club Orient section.

Pinel Island

A short ferry from Cul-de-Sac. Park your rental and take the 5-minute boat to a postcard-perfect islet.

Friar's Bay

A locals' favorite — calm water, Friar's Bay Beach Café, and easy parking just minutes from Marigot.

Loterie Farm

Rainforest ziplines, hiking trails up Pic Paradis, and the Hidden Forest Café tucked into the hills above Marigot.

Driving on the French Side

The entire island uses right-hand-side driving and your US, Canadian or EU driver's license is valid on both Dutch and French territory. Roads on the French side are generally well-paved between major towns, with a few narrow stretches climbing into the hills above Grand Case and Pic Paradis.

Border crossings are completely open — you'll only know you crossed because of the welcome signs. Your basic third-party liability coverage, fuel and parking work identically on both sides. Optional CDW or theft protection purchased at pickup should be confirmed with your rental partner to ensure cross-border coverage. The Euro is the official currency in Saint Martin, but most businesses also accept US dollars.

Parking is free in most French-side towns. In Marigot, look for the waterfront lots near the marina. Grand Case has street parking along the main beachfront road, and Orient Bay has dedicated beach parking near most beach clubs.
